Our Children's Home
Our Children’s Home Background
Our Children's Home International Inc. was born to provide vulnerable children with a safe and nurturing environment. The seed was planted in 2017 when Emmanuel J Nyangi, the founder, worked as a translator in UNHCR along with the child protection officer in Uganda. During a visit to a foster care home, he was shocked to see the maltreatment of a 5-year-old child. This experience sparked Emmanuel's vision to start a nonprofit organization providing a supportive community for orphaned, semi-orphaned, and street children.
Emmanuel's idea was revolutionary - instead of placing children in foster care with parents who may have also experienced trauma, he wanted to create a home where children could live together, supported by trained caregivers and a loving community. This vision simmered in the back of his mind until he arrived in the US, where he began to turn his dream into a reality.
In December 2019, Emmanuel registered Our Children's Home International Inc., and just a few months later, in April, the IRS recognized the organization as a 501(c)3 Public Charitable organization. This milestone began a new chapter in the organization's journey.
Today, Our Children's Home International Inc. is making a tangible difference in the lives of children in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda. The organization supports and defends over 500 children annually, providing them with a haven and a chance to thrive.
The organization's mission is built on the belief that every child deserves a loving home where they can grow and develop without fear of maltreatment or neglect. Emmanuel's vision has become a beacon of hope for children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or forced to flee their homes due to conflict or persecution.
